Gentlemen,

H. M. S. Temer,

Hongkong, 21st December, 1917.

I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter

of the 19th December re S.3. "Wollowra".

With regard to further requisitioning of ships belonging to the owners, no instructions have yet been received

It is observed that representations have been

made to the Admiralty with regard to the rate of exchange at which Charter Hire is being paid and I have been informed that

the matter is under consideration.

The Admiralty have agreed to pay the excess cost of wages over pre-war wages in requisitioned ships and also the extra cost of insurance due to a vessel being employed outside the limits of her ordinary policy; accounts for these items will be paid on presentation, if accompanied by portage bills and receipts.

As regards smaller firms being represented on the

Shipping Committee, the Committee was appointed by the

Ministry of Shipping and if smaller firms feel that they have

cause of complaint it is suggested that the matter might be

referred to His Excellency the Governor of the Colony.

Sd.

I am, etc.

H. G.

Commodore.

Sandeman,

ears. Deacon, Looker, Deacon and Harston,

Hongkong.
